🎉 Pourquoi en islam il est interdit de fêter son anniversaire ?

Salam alaykoum wa rahmatu-Llah wa barakatuh,

Nowadays, it has become common to celebrate one's birthday with a party, a cake, and candles. But Muslim men and women must ask themselves an important question: is this practice part of Islam?

The answer is clear: no, because celebrating one's birthday is an innovation (bid‘a), alien to the religion.

📌 The only two festivals in Islam

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Allah has given you two better festivals than those before: al-Fitr and al-Adha."
(Reported by An-Nasa'i)

In another authentic hadith:

"You used to have two days on which you would amuse yourselves, and indeed Allah has replaced these two days for you with two better days: the day of Fitr and the day of Adha."
(Reported by An-Nasa'i, no. 1556, authenticated by Sheikh Al-Albani)

👉 This shows that a Muslim has only two festivals: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. All other celebrations invented afterward are rejected.

🚫 Birthdays are an innovation (bid‘a)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever introduces into our religion something that is not part of it, it will be rejected."
(Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Neither the Prophet ﷺ nor his companions ever celebrated their birthdays. Yet, if there was any good in this practice, they would have done it before us.

Celebrating one's birthday therefore amounts to:

  • Imitating non-Muslims.

  • Introducing into the religion what Allah has not legislated.

  • Giving religious value to a day that does not have it.

🌙 The true wisdom of a Muslim

Each passing year is not an occasion to blow out candles, but rather to remember that:

  • Life is short.

  • Each passing day brings us closer to the afterlife.

  • We must use this time to multiply good deeds: prayer, charity, reading the Quran, dhikr.

👉 The best "gift" a Muslim can give themselves is to draw closer to Allah.

💎 Preserving one's Muslim identity

Being a Muslim woman also means affirming one's identity through practice and appearance. Just as we refuse to adopt celebrations alien to Islam, we choose modest and elegant attire that reflects our faith.

The abaya and hijab are not just clothes, but a reminder of our dignity and worth as Muslim women.

✅ Conclusion

Birthdays have no place in Islam: it is a rejected innovation. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions never practiced it, and Allah has sufficed us with two blessed festivals: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

🌸 Dear sister, instead of celebrating your birthday, use this day to do dhikr, pray two additional units, or give charity. This is the best way to thank Allah for another year.
